Katz and Arenstein, a high-powered journalistic couple, were both busted for cannabis production and sale over the weekend. Both of these individuals work for news organizations. Arenstein operates as the CBS Radio bureau chief in Washington D.C., while Katz acts as a Washington correspondent for Yedioth Ahronoth, a newspaper depending in Israel. Both Arenstein and Katz were busted when cannabis was found cultivating in their back yard. Law enforcement also discovered prepared cannabis within the house.
Charges towards Howard Arenstein
Acting on a tip from neighbors, police executed a search warrant on the home of Howard Arenstein and Orly Katz. The charges brought against the couple contain possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute. Both of the reporters were released on their own recognizance. The way the law is written, they can prepare for their trial while outside of jail. Punishments for the crimes vary greatly. Arenstein could face as little as a couple of fines or as much as a number of years in jail.
Arenstein’s house had prepared cannabis
After neighbors complained about cannabis in the back yard, vice cops raided Arenstein’s home. 11 mature, eight foot tall marijuana plants were discovered in the back yard. 12 ounces of cannabis was also found prepared in the couple’s house. The intent to distribute charge is depending on the small packages of controlled substances found.
CBS News launches investigation into Arenstein
CBS News officials have declined to officially comment on Howard Arenstein’s arrest. Some insiders believe the station is launching their own investigation. Simply being charged with the crimes may not be enough for Arenstein or Katz to lose their jobs. The couple can’t claim medical weed defense, as D.C. does not have a provision for lawful weed use.
